SUNNYDALE, CALIFORNIA

Buffy and Quentin walked up to the door of the Summers home and he kissed her before she could open the door. Buffy turned and continued the kiss for several moments before looking up into his eyes.

"I could really get used to that," she said softly. "Come on, let's see if everyone wants to go out to dinner."

Buffy opened the door and stepped inside. She put a hand behind her, stopping Quentin as he stepped across the threshold. "Who are you?"

The very tall older man looked up from the knife he was examining with raised eyebrows.

"Well, I could ask the same," he said calmly.

"My house, I get to ask first," Buffy said firmly. "Where's my mom?"

"On a grocery run is how she phrased it."

"Again, who are you?" Buffy demanded.

"Well, I believe that I'm your grandfather," Robert Giles responded. "Technically. Or do you prefer step-grandfather?"

Buffy's eyes widened. "You're Giles' dad?"

"I'm his father, yes," Robert answered. "You must be Buffy and the gentleman behind you?"

"My boyfriend, Quentin," Buffy answered and stepped further into the room, letting Quentin enter the house.

"A man with no last name?" Robert asked with the hint of a smile.

"A man with secrets and a one that isn't keen on government agents knowing them," Quentin said.

"Rupert did say he had told you all I work for the government but had been rather vague about exactly how."

"I think it went like, my father is James Bond," Buffy said.

"Ah, ever the romantic," Robert muttered. "Nothing quite as glamorous but it is fairly accurate. Shall we sit and get to know each other?"

"Okay," Buffy said after a moment. "What do I call you? Baron Giles or something?"

"It would be Lord Giles if I were being rather arrogant," Robert said. "I know American's aren't quite comfortable with noble titles and mine rarely gets used. You can call me Robert, perhaps grandfather later if you become comfortable with it."

"We'll see," Buffy said.

"Want me to get you something to drink?" Quentin offered.

"Soda would be great," Buffy said, her eyes never leaving Robert Giles as he sat down. She relaxed slightly when he set the knife aside.

"Do all your boyfriends have secrets?" Robert asked as Quentin headed for the kitchen.

"Well, the last one was a secret government agent," Buffy said. "You two could have compared notes. The one before that had a curse, not secrets."

"Ah yes, Angel," Robert commented.

"You keep up on Sunnydale news?" Buffy asked as Quentin returned with two sodas and sat down next to her.

"Quentin Travers is kind enough to let me read most of the reports," Robert answered.

"Why?" Quentin asked.

"Because my son's life is in her hands," Robert responded. "Being slightly estranged from him doesn't mean I don't care."

"When did you get in?" Buffy asked after a moment. "Giles didn't mention you were coming."

"He didn't know I was coming," Robert said as he reached for a cup of tea. "I find people aren't as guarded or rehearsed if taken by surprise. He told me he was in trouble, that the Council wanted to kidnap him and never release him because he wasn't quite human any longer because of spell. That was the extent of our conversation. He hasn't called since. I found that a bit alarming."

"And infuriating?" Quentin suggested and Robert nodded.

"That as well," Robert admitted.

"What did Giles say?"

"He told me about the last few months beginning with receiving the box of the Leviathans," Robert said. "Of course I'm sure he left out a bit. He did say that he does wish to continue a relationship with the vampire while living here with your mother. That was surprising."

"Yeah, it's complicated," Buffy said. "I know Giles and Mom really like each other and something might have developed but he's also nuts for the vampire so I haven't a clue what'll happen."

"He did say he married your mother as a stop-gap against the Council demanding he return to England," Robert commented.

"Yeah, he's the best," Buffy said with a smile. "It's a real marriage kinda, he cares about us."

"He said he was providing for the continuing education for you and your sister and doing away with the mortgage on the house," Robert said.

Buffy nodded slowly.

"A good use of funds, I'd wager," Robert said. "He mentioned he had been injured in the fight against that insane deity. How badly?"

“You know those old movies about knights jousting?” Buffy asked and Robert nodded.

“Yes, with javelins.”

“Giles was impaled with one that was rammed through the side of an RV,” Buffy said. “We almost lost him.”

“But.... he said he was in the fight against Glory the next night,” Robert protested.

“Yeah, he was and broke his stitches,” Quentin answered.

“He did?” Buffy asked him.

“Yeah,” Quentin said softly. “He went back to the ER and got stitched up again.”

“Wow,” Buffy said softly. She looked at Robert. “He's like that. Even when he's pretty sure we won't win, he's right there with us.”

“How long are you staying?” Quentin asked Robert.

“I'm not sure, I'm on leave,” the older man explained. “In between assignments.”

“What do you do?” Buffy asked. “I mean, is it like James Bond?”

“Some of it,” Robert answered. “Its a bit more like your CIA.”

“Wow,” Buffy said and then cocked her head as Quentin raised his.

“I take it my son and daughter-in-law are back,” Robert said with a laugh.

"Sounds like," Buffy said with a nod.

"Good, we can all go out for dinner later," Robert Giles suggested.

COLLINSPORT, MAINE

Carolyn looked up from some paperwork while sitting at the desk in the parlor at the sound of a knock. "I've got it!" she yelled and went to the door and opened it. "Hello, Julia, you don't have to knock, you know."

"Force of habit after all these years," Julia said as she stepped in. "Is Barnabas around?"

"Uh, they haven't been down tonight," Carolyn said as they went into the parlor. "I'm not sure they'll be down. I left some blood up there this evening. Call it a hunch."

"Ah, he changed Roxanne last night?" Julia asked.

"I think so," Carolyn responded. "Did you also know that Angelique is back on her island?"

"No, will she and Rupert come over for an evening soon?"

"No, it's just Angelique and a servant on the island, Rupert is still in California," Carolyn explained. "She called earlier in case we need her help with something. She said that Rupert needs to settle into his life in California for awhile. I got the impression it wasn't his idea."

"Amazing, she's not acting obsessively and she actually offered to help if we need it?" Julia asked, her eyebrows rising.

Carolyn laughed. "She did. Maybe the heroes and Rupert did rub off on her."

Julia chuckled. "We have such unusual lives."

"Tell me about some of your travels and adventures," Carolyn urged.

Buffy held Quentin's hand as they approached the mansion.

"Well, dinner with his lordship wasn't bad," she commented. "Giles is really uptight and he's really stressed."

"Probably wasn't easy telling his father that he's not human," Quentin said.

"Yeah," Buffy agreed.

"Are we going on patrol tonight?" he asked.

"If you're up for it," Buffy said. "I can make a quick circuit if you're too stuffed."

"I'm game," Quentin said with a smile.

"Let me drop my backpack inside and grab extra weapons," Buffy said and Quentin leaned against the Jeep.

He smiled when she walked out of the mansion and handed him a stake and short sword which he placed alongside him through the belt, hidden by his coat. "Lead on, MacDuff."

“Are you all right with Roxanne being a vampire again?” Thomas asked as Julia curled up in his arms in front of the fireplace at the Old House.

“Yes,” Julia responded. “Maybe he'll be more comfortable with being a vampire now. Lord knows I couldn't drag him out of that brooding bit of his.”

Thomas laughed. “And at the same time he could be cold as hell and kill someone easily, especially if they tried to kill you.”

“That's accurate,” she agreed. “You going to be able to be around him when they stay here over winter holidays?”

“I'll have to be,” Thomas said. “There'll be others around like Angelique and Giles. I'm not as mad at Barnabas. I didn't want you hurt.”

“I know,” she said and twisted around slightly and kissed him. “Everyone was going to be hurt no matter how it went once Roxanne returned.”

“Yeah,” Thomas agreed. “You want to go up to Boston for a few nights? Weather is supposed to stay clear.”

“That's a wonderful idea.”

SUNNYDALE, CALIFORNIA

Buffy and Quentin turned a corner near the Bronze and hesitated and then heard a second muffled scream at the far side of the parking lot. Both broke into a run.

They saw a young couple being harassed by four vampires. One vampire had the young man by the arms, forcing him watch as the other three vampires pushed the girl back and forth among them, playfully nipping at her while making lewd suggestions to each other.

“You get the boy,” Buffy said and Quentin nodded.

The older Collins ran up behind the vampire holding the young man and hit the vampire in the back of the neck and grabbed the startled creature and threw him away from the college student.

Buffy jumped in the center of the three vampires and pushed the girl to the ground. “Stay there!” She kicked one vampire in the chest and blocked a swing by another and jammed a stake into the chest of the third.

“Get your girl and get out of here!” Quentin told the kid. “And wear crosses from now on!”

He moved closer in hopes of grabbing one of the vampires Buffy was dealing with and winced at the sound of a gunshot and an impact and flash of pain in his back. Quentin turned and saw the vampire he had tossed to the ground had a pistol in hand and the barrel was smoking.

Buffy staked a second vampire and began exchanging blows with the third. “Quentin?”

“I'm fine,” he said with a literal growl as he shifted into wolf-man form and dived at the vampire before the vamp could fire again.

Vampire growls and screams filled the night along with werewolf growls.

Buffy finished her opponent and turned to help her boyfriend just as the vampire crumbled to dust. The wolfman sat up with a small growl. With a wince and whimper he began changing back to human.

“Well, I hate being shot,” he declared and got up and brushed at his clothes.

“Shot?”

“Don't panic,” he urged. “Remember, unless it's something very disastrous, I don't stay hurt, my painting does.”

“Wow,” Buffy said and extended a hand to help him up. “Where'd the kids go?”

“I told him to grab the girl and get out of here,” Quentin said and reached for her hand. “Buffy?!”

Quentin scrambled to Buffy's side as she fell backwards without a sound.

“I think she's waking up,” Buffy heard someone saying.

“Get her up and moving,” she heard Xander urging. “Tara, you and me. Let's get her to the pickup before the cops or someone else shows up. Anya, grab those empty darts.”

Buffy moaned as she felt herself dragged to her feet and hustled across the parking lot. “Anya, we'll put her between us. Will and Tara in the back. Let's move!” she heard Xander order.

“They know about the mansion and Buffy's house, what if they come back for her?”

“I don't know, Will,” Xander admitted. “They would have taken her when she was unconscious, right? I mean, they watched over her until we got there.”

“Who?” Buffy mumbled.

“The cell,” Willow said through the small sliding window in the back window of the pickup. “Get us to the cell, we can't let them get near Tara. I'll call and have Giles meet us there.”

“On our way,” Xander said and pulled out of the Bronze parking lot with his lights off for several blocks.

Buffy tried to raise her head. “What happened?”

“Graham called the mansion and said you were down and to come help,” Xander said. “The four of us dashed over and found Graham in full gear watching over you in the shadows. He refused to say how you got there or where Quentin was.”

“Quentin?” Buffy repeated. “Quentin? Where is he?”

“We don't know,” Xander said. “We found you unconscious and trank darts next to you.”

“Trank.... they shot us and took Quentin?”

“Probably a good guess and don't you dare open that door!” he snapped. “Let's get you coherent before you try and take on the U.S. Army.”

“We're getting Tara to the cell in the tomb, the soldiers know about the mansion,” Anya added.

“And Will is calling Giles to get him over there too,” Xander said.

“Okay, then I'm going to rip someone apart,” Buffy said firmly. “I have a headache.”

Giles frowned as the conversation between Joyce, Dawn and his father quieted. “She was what? They tranquilized her and Quentin is missing? I'm on my way. Be there as soon as I can. Keep Tara under wraps.”

Giles closed his phone. “The Initiative tranquilized Buffy and Quentin is missing. They then called Xander and had him come pick up Buffy, she's just now walking up.”

“What on earth?” Joyce exclaimed. “Is she okay?”

“Sounds like she is,” Giles said as he placed a knife in his belt behind his back and a semi-automatic pistol in a cross-draw position in his belt in front. “They're rushing Buffy and Tara to the cell. It's possible they'll be looking for Tara.”

“I thought the Initiative was told to keep their hands off your bunch,” Robert commented.

“They were,” Giles agreed. “I'll have her call when I get there.”

He kissed Joyce's cheek and stepped out of the door and headed for a small motorbike he had bought for short trips around town.

Giles reacted instinctively at hearing a slight sound to his left and ducked. He felt something fly over his neck. Then he was tackled to the grass.

“Trank him,” someone whispered urgently. “Keep him quiet!”

Someone had an arm around the Watcher's neck as others tried to grab his wrists.

Giles sank his fangs into the arm trying to hold him.

The man holding him yelled in pain and someone hit Giles on the temple with something solid. The arm was ripped away from his fangs as someone snapped a handcuff over one wrist.

Giles roused himself and pulled his pistol and fired at the nearest body trying to subdue him.

“Simpson is down! His vest took the bullet,” someone said anxiously.

“Get that weapon!” someone else snapped and Giles began wrestling with someone for the pistol.

Then there were sounds of scuffles and shouts.

Giles sat up and saw three black clad soldiers on the ground holding their head or jaws and someone standing almost over the Watcher with a long pipe in his hands.

“This man is off limits and you know it!” Robert yelled. “Unless you want your next posting to be shoveling snow with a spoon in Alaska, get out of here!”

The men got to their feet and helped each other down the sidewalk until they faded into shadows.

Robert watched them closely as Joyce and Dawn ran off the porch and began examining Giles.

“Rupert! You're bleeding.”

“Eh?” he asked. He touched his temple and saw blood on his fingers. “Bollocks.”

“Let's get him inside,” Joyce suggested.

“No, I need to get him to that safe place,” Robert said. “They may make another try at Rupert before I can get this sorted through both governments.”

“Take the motorbike,” Joyce suggested. “You can drive it right into the cemetery around the posts they put up at night.”

“Good idea,” Robert said. “Grab a first-aid kit and some clothes for him in a backpack, quickly.”

“Dad?”

“I'm here, Rupert,” Robert said. “How are you feeling?”

“My head hurts,” Giles complained. “What the hell was that about?”

“I assume they think you're part demon or something especially with the fangs,” Robert said. “They've gone against the agreement they have with your Slayer.”

“I don't believe this,” Giles muttered and moaned when Joyce and Dawn helped him to his feet. He felt Joyce placing a backpack over his shoulders.

“Call when you get there. We love you,” Joyce urged.

“I will,” Giles promised. “I love you both.”

He handed his father the keys to the motorbike and got on the back, wrapping his arms around his father after the bike had been kicked into action.

Gabrielle walked along the road towards home with a confident gait. The story telling had gone well, with several merchants in the audience who showed their appreciation in coin, always pleasing both Gabrielle and Cyrene.

The bard instinctively ducked, reaching down to her boot and pulling up one of her sais as a body landed behind her from a tree. A strong arm went around her waist and another grabbed her wrist as she started to bring the sai back in defense.

“It’s me, little one,” a familiar voice whispered in her ear.

“Gods! Woman!” Gabrielle squeaked, attempting to turn around but found Xena holding her firmly in an embrace. “You scared the Hades out of me!”

“Sorry, guess I was feeling a little playful.”

Gabrielle could just imagine the lopsided grin on her warrior’s face and leaned back into Xena’s strong arms, lowering the sai back to her boot.

“Found dead on the road in Amphipolis, one bard of a heart attack,” Gabrielle complained with a smile.

“I wanted to walk you home,” Xena grinned, releasing her bard so Gabrielle could turn around in her arms. She was rewarded with an embrace and kiss that took her breath away and weakened her knees.

“To walk me home you have to hide in the trees and leap out at me like some stalking tiger?” Gabrielle demanded when they could both breathe again.

“Sorry,” Xena grinned and bent to kiss her mate again, running her hands up Gabrielle’s back under the cloak the bard was wearing.

“Oh you might be sorry later, warrior mine,” Gabrielle threatened, fire dancing in her eyes.

“Really?” Xena’s voice dropped a notch, signaling to her mate that the thought was intriguing to the warrior.

Gabrielle laughed and began walking along, holding Xena’s hand.

“Where are the kids?” she asked.

“Joxer claimed Uncle rights with Solan and Mom is watching Sasha tonight. Seems we wore her out with the picnic and Solan didn’t want to wake her to bring her home.”

“Then I’ve got you to myself tonight, eh?” Gabrielle questioned, eyes dancing.

Xena felt a shiver run over her body at the husky tone in the bard’s voice.

“It has been awhile,” Xena mentioned.

“You are insatiable!” Gabrielle teased.

“Since we got back,” Xena countered.

“I know, with both of us catching up on missed work and teaching Solan how to do things differently, I guess we haven’t taken the time for each other.”

Xena stopped her bard and lifted Gabrielle’s chin until green eyes were looking into her blue ones.

“Don’t apologize, little one, no one’s fault. Just life, I love how much time we’ve been spending with the kids,” she bent forward for another kiss that weakened Gabrielle’s legs in turn. “Now, let’s take advantage of an empty house,” the warrior suggested.

Gabrielle laughed and dragged the warrior the rest of the way, both women grinning.

Once inside the door of their home Gabrielle turned and pinned Xena against the door, holding the warrior’s wrists against the door at shoulder level and attacked the warrior’s neck with an intensity that surprised the warrior and buckled her knees.

“You seem to like me falling against doors, my bard,” Xena commented.

“Hmmmm,” was the only verbal response she got for several moments as Gabrielle’s teeth found one of Xena’s most erotic spots on her neck. Gabrielle brought a leg up between her warrior’s, pinning Xena totally to the door as the warrior whimpered, unsure whether she’d go over that edge right there.

Gabrielle pulled back slightly to look into Xena’s eyes, still keeping her body against the warrior’s and her hands on Xena’s wrists. “I think you should get some special attention after scaring me half to death!”

Xena felt a shiver run over her body, this was a new side to her bard and the warrior was finding it exciting. From the beginning the bard had surprised Xena with her energy and ferocity in bed but after her return from slavery Gabrielle had held back somewhat. That hadn’t surprised Xena. It had taken Gabrielle a bit of time and persuasion to let more and more of Xena’s lusts come out in their lovemaking. The warrior had been terrified of hurting Gabrielle and that the bard would be afraid or disgusted and turn from Xena. Instead the bard had drawn more and more of her warrior out until Xena was comfortable and more trusting with her bard than with anyone she had ever known.

Xena had tried to get Gabrielle to face the lust that could hit after a fight or battle and had succeeded once, just after Gabrielle the gladiator had returned to her. Since then, the bard had held back and Xena knew that the bard was afraid of giving into those feelings again, no matter how much Xena tried to reassure Gabrielle that she would welcome and accept that side of Gabrielle.

Gabrielle hadn’t been ready to accept that in herself yet.

Now the bard was attacking Xena with an intensity that was exciting and surprising.

Xena refocused on her bard as Gabrielle snapped her fingers in front of Xena’s face. “You haven’t answered me,” Gabrielle demanded, her eyes dancing.

“Uh, what did you have in mind, little one?” Xena asked with a smile as Gabrielle’s hand began to lightly play over Xena’s nipples through her tunic top. The bard shoved Xena back against the door when the warrior tried to lean forward into Gabrielle’s body.

Xena’s eyebrows shot up but she stayed against the door.

“I love you so much, I need you so much!” Gabrielle hissed and showed Xena her trembling hand. The bard leaned her forehead against Xena’s chest.

“What is it, Gabrielle?” Xena asked softly, wanting to take the bard into her arms but one hand had a wrist pinned to the wall and the bard’s leg kept her body back.

“It’s like there’s a building hunger in me, an energy,” Gabrielle whispered.

“Then give into it, my love. I’m here, I trust you and I love you,” Xena whispered back.

“It’s nothing like I’ve ever felt, Xena,” Gabrielle dropped the hand holding Xena’s wrists and wrapped her arms around the warrior, suddenly holding herself close to her warrior.

Xena wrapped her arms around Gabrielle and held her, feeling the bard trembling in her arms. After a moment Xena lifted the bard into her arms and carried Gabrielle through the house to their bedroom and surprised Gabrielle by dumping her onto the bed instead of gently placing her there. Gabrielle lay on the bed, on her elbows, looking at the warrior in surprise.

“Nothing you could do, say, or want would make me love you any less,” Xena promised, noting the fire still in the bard’s eyes.

Gabrielle turned and sat on the edge of the bed, watching Xena warily. Xena approached her mate slowly and knelt down at Gabrielle’s knees.

“Close your eyes,” the bard obeyed, hands still shaking. “What do you want from me? What do you want to do?”

“I, uh, don’t know,” Gabrielle whispered.

“Yes, you do. Keep your eyes closed and tell me what you see,” Xena encouraged.

“You,” Gabrielle’s breath quickened. “under me, begging for release.”

“Go on,” Xena said softly.

“Begging me to take you harder and deeper,” the bard’s face was flushed.

“Go on, am I tied up?”

“What? Uh, I don’t....,” the bard hesitated, her face turning very red. “yes,” she admitted.

“Okay, what are you doing to me?” Xena asked softly.

“Xena, I can’t!” Gabrielle protested, but kept her eyes closed, the warrior noted.

“Yes, you can. I love you.”

Gabrielle grew quiet as her hands gripped the blanket under her.

Xena got up quietly and went to one of cabinets and pulled a couple of things out of her bags and walked back to the bard and knelt down again.

“Gabrielle, open your eyes,” Xena ordered.

The bard opened her eyes and was shocked to find Xena hold a long strap of leather, Gabrielle’s eyes went wide.

“Xena?”

The warrior stood up, went to a chair, and removed her boots and then knelt in front of Gabrielle again. Gabrielle looked dumbly at the dagger Xena placed in her hands.

“I’m yours, totally, my bard. Any way you want me,” Xena said simply and held out the leather strip.

“I can’t!” Gabrielle protested.

“Really, don’t think you can handle it?” Xena suddenly taunted and wasn’t surprised when Gabrielle growled and pulled her up onto the bed and on top of the bard, silencing Xena’s taunts with her lips. Xena moaned, her leg coming up between Gabrielle’s and discovering how wet the bard was already.

Gabrielle growled and flipped Xena over onto her back attacking the warrior’s neck again with a vengeance and grabbing Xena’s wrists again. The warrior didn’t resist when the bard pulled back and wordlessly tied the wrists together and then tied the strap to one of the bedposts.

Gabrielle stopped, looking confused and looked into Xena’s blue eyes.

“It’s okay, I trust you,” she whispered.

The bard looked almost like she was in pain.

“Gabrielle, part of you is still Dancer, the gladiator. Let it out.” Xena encouraged. Still the bard hesitated, eyes closed. “I want you, very badly. I want your teeth in my neck, I want your hand inside of me, your lips everywhere, your teeth biting my nipples, your tongue inside of me and stroking me. I want to feel my body trembling and bucking under you, I want to scream your name.”

Gabrielle growled and grabbed up the knife from the bed and quickly cut the tunic from Xena’s body with a swiftness that surprised the warrior. Next her trousers were off and she was tied to her own bed, naked. Gabrielle removed her own clothing and knelt between Xena’s feet and began slowly working her way up the warrior’s legs with her lips and teeth.

“Oh gods,” Xena said softly, pulling against the leather in reflex. The sight of her bard, eyes blazing, nibbling her way up the inside of Xena’s legs was enough to set her body trembling right away.

Gabrielle continued working her way up the warrior’s body but skipped Xena’s sexual area, bringing a frustrated moan out of Xena. Gabrielle continued nibbling, kissing and licking her way up Xena’s abdomen and then breasts.

The warrior arched her back as Gabrielle lightly flicked her tongue over the nipples, lightly teasing and offering no release. The bard kept her body just hovering over the warrior, not quite touching except an occasional brush of skin.

Xena resisted bringing her legs up around the bard’s hips, not wanting to give Gabrielle any ideas about tying her legs at this point, thank you.

Gabrielle moved up Xena’s chest to her shoulders and lightly nibbled, hitting pressure points that Xena had shown her over the years, making the warrior’s body begin to squirm under her. The bard surprised Xena by not attacking her neck again, instead only lightly kissing both sides and then leaning on her arms to look down into Xena’s face. This confused the warrior, she knew how much Gabrielle loved to bite, remnants of Bacchus’ touch on her life and soul, the warrior. To resist that pleasure probably meant the bard planned on dragging this out.

Xena moaned as Gabrielle straddled her hips, feeling how wet the bard was against her skin. Her hips jerked up, trying to meet the bard but Gabrielle moved up on her knees slightly, denying Xena the contact, making the warrior whimper.

“Wanting something, lover?” Gabrielle whispered, a dangerous edge in her voice.

“You, always you and only you!”

How long Gabrielle tortured her, Xena didn’t know.

Gabrielle kissed, licked, nipped and teased every inch of her warrior until Xena was mass of writhing muscles under her. Again and again the bard’s hands or tongue would take Xena almost to the point of release and then back away, at first bringing moans of frustration and then cries and whimpers.

All Xena knew was that she was begging for release, begging for her bard’s body.

She was almost in tears when the bard’s fingers finally entered her again and stayed there, beginning a rhythm that the warrior’s hips began rocking to meet the bard’s hand, begging for more. Slowly the bard’s hand claimed Xena totally, both women stopping for a moment with the wonderment of the feeling of it. When Gabrielle began moving her fist slowly, Xena bit into her lip at the sensations, already on overload. Then Gabrielle’s tongue began to stroke Xena’s clit and the warrior screamed, her back arching. The bard placed her arm across Xena’s abdomen, trying to maintain control of her warrior as Xena trembled uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face as her body shook with wave after wave.

Xena opened her eyes to find herself in Gabrielle’s arms; being rocked softly, the leather strap still tied to one of her wrists. Gabrielle’s face was one of worry.

“Are you okay, I didn’t mean to hurt you,” she whispered.

“Shhhh,” Xena managed to whisper. “Wonderful, no apologies.”

Gabrielle got up and came back into the bedroom carrying a mug and a towel. She crawled back into the bed and took Xena back into her arms, raising the warrior up until Xena could drink the wine being offered her. Then the bard began toweling Xena’s hair and face dry and then her own.

Xena wasn’t surprised at how wet their hair and faces were. After that workout they were both covered in sweat and their own juices. Xena laid her head against the bard’s chest as Gabrielle held her close.

“You sure you’re okay?” Gabrielle asked softly.

“Woman, you just sent my body into total melt down, had me screaming your name and begging on my knees. I have no energy left, my muscles have turned to jelly and I have no voice left. Of course, I’m okay. More than okay,” Xena smiled as Gabrielle blushed.

“What came over me? I had to possess you totally until you were helpless because of me.”

“You’ve been fighting battle lust ever since you came back to me, you just finally snapped.”

“But I didn’t feel like that after that mess with the Romans kidnapping Sasha, it wasn’t like the battle lust that hit after a match in the Arena,” Gabrielle said thoughtfully, snuggling down into the bed, keeping her arms around her exhausted warrior.

“It’s been under the surface all this time,” Xena said simply, nuzzling Gabrielle’s neck. “Just like the Warlord is always in me and sometimes comes out sexually. You now have Dancer and Dancer’s anger and fury.”

“You’ve never let anyone tie you up like that, have you?” Gabrielle whispered, a tear escaping her eyes, Xena softly wiped them away with her lips.

“No,” she answered easily, “I told you, I’m yours always and I trust you.”

“I’m not sure I totally trust myself,” Gabrielle answered.

“I know that, that’s how I feel when that hits and you always reassure me that you trust me and love me,” Xena said sleepily.

“When we go north, can we avoid the Bacchae forest?” Gabrielle asked, her voice becoming small, surprising the warrior.

Instantly, Xena was awake, senses alert. Her bard was disturbed and worried about something and the warrior came to life. She quickly turned the situation around and reached out to hold her bard.

“Of course, my love,” she answered, pulling Gabrielle close. “What is it?” she asked.

“There’s more darkness, it hurts,” Gabrielle whispered, voice growing faint and small.

“Tell me, Gabrielle,” Xena insisted.

“I’m afraid I’m close to losing it with you sometimes.”

“What is frightening you?”

“My teeth,” the bard confessed, curling almost into a ball next to her warrior.

“You’ve drawn blood before,” Xena confessed and wasn’t surprised when Gabrielle’s eyes snapped open in fear, suddenly very awake. Xena held on tight and wouldn’t let Gabrielle back out of the embrace. “I didn’t say anything because, one - we were busy with other life crisis, two - I don’t care if you nip me, and three - I love you and trust you.”

“I thought I had tasted blood,” Gabrielle frowned.

“We knew this was there as well as the battle lust. It doesn’t worry me, little one.”

“It worries me,” Gabrielle muttered.

“Why, is it getting worse?” Xena frowned.

“Yes, it’s like it’s building up, like water behind a dam that has nowhere to go,” the bard snuggled back into Xena’s arms, her panic momentarily eased.

“Rare meat?” Xena suggested.

“Been there, done that,” the bard said weakly.

“Shhh, go to sleep, little one. We’ll deal with it, and we won’t go near the forest,” Xena promised as she felt sleep overcoming both of them.

Angelique picked up her chirping phone and opened it. “Hello, Rupert.”

“Angelique, I... don't know what to say.”

“Rupert, I love you very much and I can't wait to see you again,” Angelique said softly. “I needed away from Sunnydale and you need to get back to your life.”

“You're part of that life,” Giles responded.

“Yes,” Angelique agreed. “And I will be here when all of you come back for two weeks. You know I can't stay there all the time.”

Giles sighed. “I know. I'm going to miss you.”

“And I will miss you terribly,” Angelique said. “I foresee long phone calls, my love and don't worry about me becoming jealous if you spend time with your family, I think the Summers-Giles family are marvelous. I can't wait to show all of you the island, its absolutely magical in the winter.”

“I can't wait,” Giles said and sat down on the porch railing. “Tell me about it.”

“Well....”

SUNNYDALE, CALIFORNIA

Buffy smiled as Quentin wrapped his arms around her from behind. "Hey, handsome."

"Hey, I can't believe you took out all those vampires tonight," he commented. "You are amazing, you know."

"Thanks," Buffy said and leaned back into him. "When do you have to leave?"

"In a few days," Quentin responded. "I'm going to go up to San Francisco and maybe Seattle to see if it would benefit the business to expand to this coast. I wouldn't be gone more than two weeks. I like staying a few days where I'm exploring in order to check out things when companies aren't expecting it."

"Smart," Buffy said. "I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too," Quentin said softly. "Just think, though, in a very short time we can risk getting frozen to death again."

Buffy laughed and lightly slapped his arms.

"Come to bed," he urged.

"Oh yeah."

Barnabas leaned up on an elbow and gently touched Roxanne's cheek. "You're so beautiful. Julia was right, I was drawn to you as if by magic the moment I saw you."

"I love you, Barnabas," Roxanne said softly. "Never say No."

Barnabas smiled and kissed her gently. "I won't tonight."

"Please."

The vampire kissed her again and then he pulled back slightly and she saw his fangs elongate. Roxanne turned her head and winced as his fangs pierced her neck again.

Giles was trimming his goatee the next morning when he heard the doorbell to the Summers home.

“I've got it!” he heard Joyce yell and the door open downstairs.

A few minutes later, as he was putting away his shaving and beard care kit Joyce leaned into the bathroom.

“Uh, Ru,” she began.

“Yes? Is it Dr. Sam with another question?” Giles asked.

“No, uh, someone is here to see you.”

“Whom?”

“Just... come down.”

Giles pulled on a t-shirt and absently thought to he needed to fix the plumbing in the guest bathroom downstairs so he could use the damn sink.

He trotted downstairs in jeans, runners and a t-shirt and stopped at the bottom of the stairs, shocked into just staring.

“Hello, Rupert.”

“Father?” Giles stammered.

“Yes, and you look like hell.”

“Oh bollocks,” Giles muttered.

Joyce sat down next to Giles on the sofa as they faced her father, the older gentleman taking a sip of his tea.

"This is nice, thank you," Lord Giles of Bath commented. "So, Rupert, you were more than a little vague about your condition and how it came to be that the Council wanted to stuff you into a cell and treat you like a lab rat."

"I didn't have time to explain fully," Giles said. "I had just been handcuffed and taken to a car without even a coat in Maine. I apologize for not calling shortly after."

"You've done quite well redeeming yourself after that mess with Ethan Rayne," Robert Giles commented and Joyce placed a hand on Giles' leg. "You have the most successful Slayer in history. I would think it would take a lot to get the Head Watcher to a small village in Maine to take you into custody."

"I agree with that assessment," Giles said after a moment.

"Your Head Watcher also refuses to discuss your case with anyone," Robert Giles continued. "You're too thin and have obviously lost weight recently and you're too pale."

"Yes," Giles said. "What are you suspecting me of, father?"

Robert Giles frowned and reached inside his coat and pulled out a small notebook and opened it.

Giles instinctively caught the item his father had removed from the notebook and tossed and promptly dropped it and jumped to his feet.

As he struggled to make his fangs recede his father seemed calm.

"What the hell?" Joyce yelled. "Rupert, sit down. Listen, Mr. Giles, you make one move to hurt Rupert and I will throw you out a window, I don't care how well trained you are!"

"I'll keep that in mind," Robert responded. "Are you involved with a vampire to the point of addiction or are you a ghoul?"

"Neither, sort of," Giles responded.

"Sort of? You've been in the States too long," Robert commented. "Can you hold a cross at all?"

"I agree with that as well," Giles said as he and Joyce sat back down. "I can hold a cross but it's not comfortable for me. If it lies against my skin for any length of time it burns. Bright sunlight is painful. I'm not a vampire addict or ghoul but something inbetween vampire and human."

"Go on," Robert urged.

"If you're all right, I'm going to start some brunch," Joyce suggested. "I'll stay right here if you need."

"I'll be all right, luv," Giles said softly. "Thank you."

"I take it this will take awhile," Robert said.

"I'm afraid so," Giles said. "And you're not going to like it."

"Explain."

Carolyn smiled as she entered the coffee shop. "Hey, Maggie, how goes?"

"Not bad," Maggie Haskell responded. "I got the first order of blood in. Enough for your puddings."

"Great, we're going to be doing extra ones too," Carolyn said as Julio placed an order into the pass-thru window.

Maggie grabbed it and took it to a customer sitting at a table glancing over the local newspaper and then returned to Carolyn at the counter. "Really? Another family member has discovered blood pudding?"

"Yeah, this morning," Carolyn answered.

Maggie hesitated and pulled off her apron. "I need to go over to the post office, want to walk with me before heading off with your order?"

"Sure," Carolyn agreed.

Once outside they began walking slowly over the shoveled walkways.

"Roxanne?" Maggie asked.

"Yeah," Carolyn answered. "I had a flash earlier that I should pick up the blood today before sunset."

Maggie sighed. "I don't quite get it, you know? It wasn't....pleasant from what I remember."

“You probably didn't know but I, well.... Damn, this is hard to talk about, isn't it?” Carolyn stammered. “Barnabas, something went wrong with Julia trying to help him with science and he was suddenly starved and I walked in. It was frightening but not painful or.... horrible.”

“Did it continue?” Maggie asked as they neared the post office.

“A few times and I didn't mind,” Carolyn admitted. “Probably why a couple of others kept seeking him out despite him staying away from them.”

“It wasn't like that for me,” Maggie said as they stopped at the door to the post office. “It was right after he had been released after 130 plus years. He wasn't sane and I looked just like his Josettte.”

“Yeah, I figured that out later,” Carolyn said. “He's still torn up about how he treated you.”

“So Roxanne is totally okay with this?” Maggie asked.

“Totally,' Carolyn answered. “They've been arguing about whether it would be sooner rather than later.”

“Amazing,” Maggie responded. “Come on, let's get inside. It's freezing out here.”

SUNNYDALE, CALIFORNIA

Robert Giles frowned as Giles finished catching his father up on what had happened over the previous year.

"So you're part vampire? A dhampir?" Robert Giles asked.

"The rare mating between a Balkan vampire and a human?" Giles pondered. "Of sorts. Mine is through magic rather than birth but, yes, I am part vampire and will become one when I die unless I die through fire, explosion or something catastrophic."

"Or your body is prevented from rising," Robert commented. "How the hell did you allow this to happen?"

"By choosing to be attacked by a vampire who then preyed on me several times," Giles snapped. "Repeating, I was placed under a spell as I died. The spell twisted my death into something between a vampire and human."

"But you're still involved with the vampire?" Robert questioned. "And how does Mrs. Summers here fit in?"

Joyce brought toasted garlic bread to the table. "Lasagna is almost done. I fit in a bit awkwardly. The marriage was a suggestion by Rupert's friend and it was agreed on as a family. We're close and we have no doubt how much Rupert loves all of us, especially the girls."

"And where is your vampire?" Robert asked.

"Off handling her business and giving me a chance to adjust back into my life in Sunnydale," Giles said.

"And you're going to continue your relationship with her?"

"Yes," Giles said as Joyce dished each them a serving of lasagna. "She also knows I'm dedicated to Joyce, the girls and the others. She isn't threatened by my marriage to Joyce."

"I've noted that you haven't said her name," Robert commented.

"And I don't intend to," Giles responded. "It's an unusual name and knowing what region of the States she comes from would make it fairly easy to discover who she is. I won't risk that."

"So what happens now?" Joyce asked after several moments of silence.

"I would like to stay and get to know you and the girls," Robert said. "And my son. We've been...distant for a number of years because of me. I'd like to rectify that."

Giles nodded. "We can give it a try."

"Now, tell me about that Glory creature a bit more," Robert suggested.

Roxanne opened her eyes slowly and smiled as she reached out and touched Barnabas' cheek as he watched over her.

"Thank you," she whispered.

"I never thought someone would thank me for turning them into a vampire," he responded and kissed her gently. "There's blood here. Carolyn left it by the door a moment ago."

"How...?"

"Her psychic abilities, perhaps," Barnabas suggested and helped her sit up and handed her a mug of blood.

Roxanne drank quickly and then sighed. She set the mug aside and pulled Barnabas back down onto the bed.
